Internship
Do you want to learn more about how addiction is covered by the media? Do you want to shape the next generation of reporting to be more accurate, empathic, and ethical? We have a great internship opportunity to help our non-profit improve Reporting on Addiction.
We are seeking an intern who is passionate about improving the public’s understanding of addiction, who has a solid understanding of the media environment, and who can assist our special projects specific to the coverage of opioid settlement dollars. The intern will focus on our Opioid Settlement Transparency Project as well as broader research into the media environment and how coverage affects public perception of addiction, harm reduction, treatment, and/or recovery. Opioid addiction may be the focus of this work, but other types of substance use disorders (e.g. cannabis, stimulants) will also be covered. This position offers both educational components and real-world research experience with clear deliverables.
The position is remote with flexible hours. The internship requires writing experience and internet access. The application will preferably be in training for an advanced degree and have shown the ability to work independently and multi-task.
We look for a diverse pool of applicants including those from historically marginalized and underrepresented groups - women, people with lived experience of addiction and mental health conditions, people of color, people with incarceration histories, people with disabilities, first and second generation college students, first and second generation immigrants, veterans, people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender nonconforming, and people from different socioeconomic backgrounds.
