YOUR GIFT MATTERS
Thank you for helping us improve reporting about drug use and addiction. Since 2020, we have impacted hundreds of journalists and developed essential resources to help student and professional journalists cover this important topic ethically and empathetically.
The journalism industry has a long history of inaccurate and harmful reporting on substance use, harm reduction, addiction, treatment and recovery. At Reporting on Addiction (501c3), we believe that a lack of training and resources contributes to this issue. We also believe the media is ready to move forward. That's why we work with student and professional journalists by offering various free resources, trainings and one-on-one support. We also work closely with experts through training and experience to teach them best practices for interacting with the media to reduce harm and increase accuracy.
By donating today, you're helping us continue working with journalists, educators and experts through training and experience to move the media toward a future of accurate, ethical and well-rounded Reporting on Addiction.
We offer customized training for journalists that discuss the latest in addiction science, how to eliminate stigma in reporting and how to use our resources to improve stories.
We help prepare experts through experience and training to translate their message to a broader audience and see the value of working with local, regional and national journalists.
READY-TO-USE COLLEGE JOURNALISM CURRICULUM
We’ve developed a model curriculum, including lesson plans, lectures and assignments, for college journalism classrooms of all levels. Each summer, we onboard a new cohort of educators to receive our curriculum, alongside training on best practices for teaching addiction reporting.
FREE TANGIBLE RESOURCES
We regularly release new topic-specific toolkits (such as digital security and op-ed writing guides), condensed and expanded style guides and customized newsletters to support journalists in reporting on addiction. These resources have been designed to work for busy journalists, with input from journalists and experts.
We offer experts tailored toolkits for working with the media that provide actionable steps to improve reporting in their local community.
COMMUNITY & MORE
We foster a community of journalists, educators and experts devoted to decreasing addiction stigma through a Slack group featuring interest-specific breakout discussions, establishing a direct line between journalists and experts through our expert database and intimate Zoom discussions on trending topics.
